Be confident about a charitable contribution
Do you find yourself wanting to help those in need? Do you feel it’s time you gave a little something back to your community? Perhaps you want to donate money, but hesitate to do so for fear your money will end up in the wrong hands.
Opening your heart and your wallet to those in need is, to borrow from the well-known MasterCard TV advertising campaign, priceless.
We recently donated $7,000.00 to the Real Medicine Foundation to purchase land for the construction of a children’s school and center in the Pallamalala region of Sri Lanka. Take a look at the photo of some of the kids and the news story below. This small town was decimated by the tsunamis, leaving many children without parents. All of us at the Dalbey Education Institute are very proud to contribute in a small way to such a worthy cause.

We encourage you to donate to charity, but first, here are some guidelines to help you make wise giving decisions.
The Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance (www.give.org), offers the following tips on charitable giving:
(1) Do not give cash! Always make contributions by check and make your check payable to the charity, not to the individual collecting the donation.
(2) Keep all records of your donations – receipts, canceled checks, and bank statements – so you can document your charitable giving at tax time. Out-of-pocket expenses (including transportation costs) directly related to your volunteer service to a charity are deductible as well.
(3) Don’t assume a charity is real just because the name looks impressive or closely resembles the name of a well-known organization. You can see if the charity you’re considering donating to is recognized by using the free database search at www.guidestar.org.
(4) Check out the organization with the local charity registration office (usually a division of the state attorney general’s office) and with your Better Business Bureau.
I hope these tips are helpful to you. Remember, giving makes you feel good, and the people or animals you choose to help will be very appreciative.
Warmly,
Russ

What a wonderful story. I once asked a personal trainer how many sit-ups I should do. He said, “As many as you can, more than one.”
I also struggled with wanting to help and not knowing how. I now sponsor 2 little girls in Rumania, Eva and Anike. They are too young to write or know me, but at least I am doing SOMETHING!! MORE THAN ONE . . .
