Make Something Happen
Seth Godin, author of many best-selling business books, is now blogging at sethgodin.typepad.com. He recently posted the following very simple piece of business advice, and I agree.
Make something happen.
I once had a boss that always said "nothing ever happens until you pick up the phone." Perhaps I’m dating myself a bit, as there are lots of other ways to communicate today, but the basic idea still holds water.
Things don’t just "happen" all by themselves. Someone needs to make something happen. Every action has a reaction, right? So take action!
Think about this if you’re starting or running your own business. The first thing on your to-do list each day should be to make something happen. Be specific and outline an "action item" that you can do that day to move your business forward. Can you make a telephone call you’ve been putting off? Could you follow up with some prospects you’ve contacted previously? How about sending that postcard promo you’ve been planning for weeks?
One thing is for sure – if you don’t make something happen, someone else could, and then they might reap the benefits instead of you.
I’d like to hear some specific ideas for making things happen and stimulating some business. Post your comments and ideas here, and we’ll share the best with our readers.
Make something happen – I know you can!
Warmly,
