My Top Twenty Reasons to Exercise
Back in April of 2006, I blogged about ten simple tips to remain physically and emotionally healthy, happy and in control of your life (click HERE to read it).
How are you doing in 2007 so far? Are you eating well and exercising regularly? If not, it’s never too late to start.
As a former professional athlete, exercise and diet have always been – and continue to be – a big part of my life. But don’t think that you have to take drastic, difficult measures to improve your overall fitness and health. You don’t have to say ‘no’ to all of your favorite foods, or train like a maniac as if you were planning to ride in the Tour de France.
Just make small changes overall, and if you’re consistent for at least a few weeks, you’ll see results. And once you’ve created a pattern for improved fitness, it will become second nature to keep progressing with your healthy habits!
If you’re not currently exercising, even mild activity – like walking as little as half a mile three times each week – will make a big difference in how you feel.
Here are my top 20 reasons to exercise. Believe it or not, ALL of these benefits can come from routine exercise. I’m sure you’ll feel more motivated to exercise after reading this list!
1. Feel energized and alive
2. Increase your metabolism and lose weight
3. Have more self-esteem and confidence
4. Lose body fat
5. Gain muscle & get stronger
6. Increase endurance & stamina
7. Share your energy with loved ones
8. Enjoy the break to clear your mind
9. Feel healthy
10. Look forward to challenges
11. Improve your mood
12. Enjoy food without gaining weight or guilt
13. Improved circulation
14. Get relief from stress
15. Sleep more deeply and wake up rested
16. Alleviate depression
17. Prevent injuries
18. Overcome nervousness
19. Reduce lower back pain
20. Strengthen joints
So if you’ve been feeling down, or just want to improve your life, give exercise a try. I know that if you do, you’ll feel better and more in control of your life. Do it for yourself, because you want to be stronger, happier, more confident, and more relaxed. I know you can do it!
Warmly,
