Money-Making Lessons From The Great Depression

How to make money in tough times. Image source: Unknown.
Last week, the Federal Reserve Board released the minutes from their latest meeting and it looks like many of the top financial minds in the country believe the recession is far from over.
So if you’ve been waiting for things to turn around, I suggest you stop waiting and start taking action.
Because you do NOT need to wait until the recession is over to pursue your dreams. In fact, many great fortunes have been created DURING recessions and even during the Great Depression.
In a good economy there are people who struggle. In a bad economy there are people who make a fortune. The point is “there are ALWAYS opportunities for those who pursue their dreams…
Let me show you a few examples:
#1) During the stock market crash of the Great Depression, many lost entire fortunes. But not everyone lost money. Floyd Bostwick Odlum turned $39,000 into over $100 million by purchasing undervalued companies for pennies on the dollars.
#2) John Maynard Keynes didn’t have much success with his investments before the Great Depression. He actually became financially successful DURING the Great Depression by investing in cheap utility companies.
#3) Jesse Livermore became a legend when he shorted the market in 1929 (which means he would make money if the market went down, and would lose money if the market went up.) As we all know, the market crashed big-time in October of 1929 and Jesse Livermore made nearly $100 million.
Now, what do all three of these examples have in common?
With the benefit of hindsight, the answer is simple: When everyone else was focusing on doom & gloom, these individuals kept their eyes open and searched for OPPORTUNITIES and pursued their dreams.
Right now, you’ve got a similar opportunity. Most real estate “gurus” are preaching gloom & doom at the moment.
It’s easy to see why: In the past few years, house prices have dropped, foreclosures spiked and investing in real estate is now viewed as risky business.
And while it’s easy to focus on the negative aspects of this current real estate market, doing so probably won’t earn you a fortune.
So I encourage you to keep your eyes open and watch for opportunities as they present themselves — just like Floyd Odlum, John Keyes and Jesse Livermore did during the Great Depression. In fact, some of the biggest opportunities of all TIME are all around us,
If you’re a Dalbey Education student, keep a close watch on your email as this week I’ll be sending you some specific instructions on how to make money in foreclosures without risking a cent of your own money on property.

If I have the money I could have been active in the cash flow biz. I have not even finished the Winning in the Cash Flow education. This is the reason why I did not participate in all you offers. I am just a reader of your emails. I could not afford the cost of this business.

I am certain that I would have benefitted from the offered instruction. Next time, I hope to be more fortunate. I have also started studying the “foreclosure” business. Your enthusiasm is contagious. It has been nearly four years since I purchased your course..
Due primarily to health problems, I have never started, not even the web site or leads that I purchased..
Since I haven’t even started working with your personnel on the telephone, would it not be a mistake to sign up for any
course at this time? Would I not be far behind the others attending the class?
Thanks for your help!

I hear you about making money in these hard times. But there always a hard times for someone. I would love to learn how to make money during times like these. My problem is like a lot of other Americans I have been out of work for about a year. I was in a bad car wreck that broke my neck, and I am 40 years of age. Most business’s are looking for broken old men. So instead of focusing on the problem, I would rather find a solutions in making money in the cashflow business. How do you go about contacting foreclosure invester/agents. Be for I lose every thing I work for. Thank you: Marcelino A. Molina

Hey Russ,
Your insight into creating income in an economic downturn has caused me to rethink about what I’m doing now. Although I don’t subscribe to a lot of Journalist’s economic outlooks as they have a tendency to twist facts to fit their particular truths, I do subscribe to your teachings with Cash Flow Secrets.
So, Thank you for this refreshing insight into the real estate market today. I will keep my eyes and mind open for unique opportunities as well as to keep learning with your institute.
Sincerely,
Ron

This is a very interesting blog and somewhat encouraging. I’ll
have to admit that I have been discouraged lately because when
I find good Notes the sellers don’t want to sell them as they
don’t think they can get a better return on their money in this economy. This encourages me to keep on plugging away and
looking for those opportunities to make money. Thanks Russ.
March 2nd, 2010 at 10:47 am
Your article is encouraging. I lost nearly everything during 2008-2009 which includes a bankruptcy and foreclosure. I decided not to let these major events define me. I purchased your CashFlow program and feel that is going to be my track back to financial independence.
Your article reminded me that in spite of the worst financial experiences, if a person remains focused and go after their dreams in spite of the odds, they will succeed.
I expect to be on my road to recovery with your program within the next few months. 2010 will be a great financial break through for me.
Please continue to publish these encouraging blogs. People. such as myself need them
March 2nd, 2010 at 10:55 am
please sir, i will be paying close attention to that ad about making money like you have, teach me please, because i am sincerely praying for a break.

That there are always opportunities for those who take action and pursue their dreams is a good point. Thanks for the reminder that there are many who have made a lot of money in bad economies. Although the overall economy is in recession and probably will be for longer than we’d like, this is not a bad time for note finders and investors who are finding there’s lots of opportunity for winning in the cash flow business.
March 2nd, 2010 at 7:14 pm

I look forward to your next email dealing with foreclosure.
March 2nd, 2010 at 7:22 pm
Hi Russ,
I read your article and I am definitely keeping my eyes open. I also am interested in foreclosures with no money down. Please keep in touch regarding this. I am still working on the different areas of your book sending out letters/cards and word of mouth to various businesses. I don’t want to go to fast with this. I want to go step by step until I can absorb what I am learning. Please don’t give up on me I am really trying to work this out. I know that your other article mention that you have to put out money to make money. I am quite awhere of this. I am putting out money as I can afford to.
March 2nd, 2010 at 7:38 pm
If Keynes thinking was not so ingrained now, I think our economy and culture would be on sounder ground. Why let some Englishman tell us how to run our economy?
Livermore had his day, then didn’t. Good while it lasted. But Lindberg Sr. was right about the Federal Reserve and so was McFadden in the 1930s. Nonetheless in the ballyhooed lean times, much green paper or digital figure stuff can be made. With regards to real ‘money’, that may be another subject.
March 2nd, 2010 at 7:51 pm
absolutely correct.I think lots of money will be made in the realestate market.I feel that when everyone is getting out is a great time to get in.
March 2nd, 2010 at 7:59 pm
Russ,my mentor, This is one of your many messages I am very obliged for.It exudes empathy, compassion and encouragement. Please accept my sincere and humly thanks. You will soon realize that I am not what my present situation makes those who don’t know me think I am.
Again thanks.
Henry Fossung.
March 2nd, 2010 at 8:40 pm
Russ,
Having success whether the economy is in good or bad shape boils down to what you have been saying all along – “If you think about what you want – you will get what you want. If you think about what you don’t want – you get what you don’t want. You get what you think about!” That is a very powerful statement! Our thoughts and how we respond to them plays a large role in how things work out! Thanks for the positive outlook!

You are so right. Real estate not a good investment? It will be a good investment again and if I had the money I would be out buying up every good deal I could find! We have to stay positive, if life were always easy we wouldn’t appreciate the easy times as much!

I have looked at Russ’s commercial for years, What was I waiting for?? This is without a doubt the best offering anyone could possibly hope to come across. Right now we have promised ourselves, that we are going to be one of the top money earners here in Montana. Currently I am tapped out financially. But all I need is the first few deals and what a leg up that will be. We can than really focus on where we want to go. And get more involved with the different aspects of the note business, such as forclosures. Thanks Russ, just for being who you are!

I just received your program 2 days ago and I’m very excited about this business’ potential. I have already read through most of your information and devoured several of your web sights. I only wish it wasn’t Saturday so I could go to the court house. I have looked at most of the blogs and I assume you are returning peoples comments via e-mail. But, as a newbie trying to learn all I can, It would be nice if you could answer some of the questions presented in the blogs on sight, so we could all learn. Thanks, and just call me “excited” from Minnesota.
March 6th, 2010 at 4:34 pm
I am going to be sure to stay alert to current events as they happen. How ever I’m still just as excited as I was when I FIRST got my note finders kit and will do something soon. The most important thing is my getting more financal literacy yes to know what to do with the money when it starts coming.I’m reading the Rich Dad series of books and oh it’s great.I’m reailly getting a since of what I want to do for the future.
