CNN's Heroes show next week

CNN just announced the three finalists for its Heroes/Medical Marvels series. The winner is going to be announced on December 6th. But in the meantime, you can click on this link and read about these three amazing people.

A grieving mom started “Miracle Flight for Kids,” a program that helps financially-strapped parents and family members visit sick children in hospitals throughout the country. One started a medical clinic in Kenya. And another founded a program for disabled kids in India.

Truly inspirational, and a powerful example of how each and every one of us can make a difference and truly be heroes.

Take a look and be sure to watch next week...

Avoid the Holiday Trap of Overeating

Xmas_cookies The holidays may be a great season of giving and of spending time with family, but for a lot of us, it’s also the season of overindulgence. It's easy for me to fall into some pretty unhealthy eating patterns when there are tasty temptations all around.

Here's the good news: It’s not hard to avoid eating to the point of regret if you have a game plan. I saw these helpful hints on surviving the temptations of delicious – but often unhealthy – holiday treats on webmd.com:

Don't get me wrong; food is one of the many things in life worth sharing and enjoying. And there’s nothing wrong with having a holiday cookie or two (or maybe even three).

But remember to celebrate wisely and with your health in mind… in the long run, you’ll be glad you did!

Denver Rescue Mission Turkey Drive Donation

Last week, I helped kick off the Denver Rescue Mission’s annual turkey drive. Here’s a picture of Brad Muhle, the organization’s president, and me at the press conference where we announced Dalbey Education Institute’s donation of over 800 turkeys. It was a chilly morning, but I was warmed by the thought that we were helping to make Thanksgiving brighter for a lot of people.

Turkeydrive2007_small_enhanced Our announcement got a lot of coverage by the local press. My hope is that everyone who saw the television spots, or heard Brad and me on the radio, will step up and donate a turkey, too.

I was also really proud of my staff, many of whom joined me at the press conference and who made their own personal donations to the Mission. Together, we helped the Denver Rescue Mission reach ten percent of its goal – and that was just on the first day!

Here’s my challenge to all of you: No matter where you live, there are people who are less fortunate and who need our help.

This time of year especially can be difficult and lonely. If you have the time and the resources, I urge you to make a donation – even a small one – of time, food or money to your local homeless shelter or other community outreach organization.

Reach out and make an impact!

What does your resume say about you?

Resume_image It's been a while since I've had to submit a resume to a potential employer, but I do still look at resumes regularly as an employer myself.

Now, I admit: I've never taken a class about creating professional resumes, but after having seen a lot of flawed ones, I have a pretty good feel for what you should and shouldn't do.

I found a smart article on CNN.com that gives some easy pointers to make the most of your resume. Some of the tips might seem obvious, but on the other hand, it’s sometimes the obvious that gets overlooked.

If you're seeking a part-time position to complement your at-home cash flow business, make sure your resume is the best it can be.

Take a look at this article:

1.2 Million Steps Towards A Cure For A-T

Tim_borland_w_stroller_smaller_2 This is an amazing story. It’s about a guy who recently ran 63 marathons in 63 days to raise awareness and help find a cure for Ataxia-telangiectasia, or A-T, a progressive and degenerative disease that affects a variety of body systems.

In case you don't have a calculator handy, that's 26.2 miles times sixty-three, or 1,650.6 miles in total... while pushing a stroller, often with a child afflicted with A-T.

This man’s positive attitude and commitment to his goal are awe-inspiring. It shows how any of us can use our passions to find ways to make an impact on the people and world around us.

Computing in the Cash Flow Business

Computerchip One of the first things you planned to buy when you decided to start your own business was probably a computer. Computer equipment is typically a necessary investment for entrepreneurs.

But how do you know what to buy? Does it really matter what brand you get? What about the processor speed? And what are the "must have" applications for business use that might not be included in a general-purpose PC?

If you’re like me, it’s easy to get lost in the high-tech "computer-ese" that’s thrown at you at a computer store.

I happened to see this helpful online segment from The Today Show that gives some great practical advice on purchasing your equipment.
