Helping Kids Eat Right

For all you parents out there, here’s a great article from The Today Show’s website that talks about kids and their diets. Did you know that 45 percent of this country’s youth are overweight or obese, and the number of children burdened with diabetes has nearly quadrupled in the past 30 years? I didn't.

Thankfully, there's some great ideas about how to swap out the bad stuff for the good in this article (click the sidebar links for suggestions for every meal... from breakfast to dinner and the snacks in-between):

Actor or Reactor?

Onstagespotlight Here’s a question for you: Are you an actor or a reactor in your life?

Do you write the script, direct the “action,” and play the lead? Or are you sitting in the audience, watching and passively reacting to what’s going on around you?

Which do you want to be?

In some situations, it’s fine to be a REACTOR – if you’re in a new circumstance, and need to get a sense for what is the best strategy or what’s appropriate before taking action.

But most of the time, if you’re motivated to make the most out of life, you need to be an ACTOR.

For me, being an actor is simply a mindset. It’s a question of focus and motivation, and making an active decision within your own mind and heart to say, “I want my life to change,” “I expect more from myself and my life,” and “I want to achieve my dreams.”  And then doing whatever it takes to get there.

I’m not saying it’s always easy to take charge of your life and successfully play the part of the “leading man” or
leading lady.” Committing to achieving success and really “owning” the changes you want to make can be hard work. In fact, I encounter difficulties and suffer setbacks myself all the time.

But, the only way to step onto that new “stage” of your life and achieve that Hollywood movie ending is to write your own script… a script that stars YOU!

So remember that life is a great adventure. Your life is your gift to the world and YOU are the star – the actor who “performs” and shines throughout the “plot”… the story of your life!

Kids benefit from mentoring... and so do we
